The Tukong School Questions and Answers
How much does it cost?
Our school is a traditional family school. We have family rates.
Students are accepted by their attitude and willingness to learn,
not by how much money they have.
Do you have to have an appointment?
No. You can visit our school whenever you like.
We prefer appointment because if there are a lot of people
who want to see the instructor that day, we can recommend
another day.
What is TUKONG Moosul?
Tu -- Special
Kong -- Warrior
Moo -- Martial
Sul -- Arts
This is a traditional Korean style of
Martial Arts created by Master Wonik Yi.
It is a combination of 36 different
empty hand and 18 weapon styles. We do
techniques that are hard style (like
Tae Kwon Do), soft style (like Aikido
and Kung Fu), throwing and falling (like
Judo), weapons and Tai Chi, philosophy,
and advanced self defense theory.
How often can I train or how often do I have to train?
As a new member of the school, you can come to three classes,
Tuesday through Saturday. We recommend training two times a
week.
How long does it take to get a black belt?
Three to five years. It varies with each individual,
and depends upon how often you train.
What are the age limits?
The minimum age is 6 years old, and there is no maximum age.
We feel that age is unimportant. A young man may kick fast
but an older person thinks fast.
I'm too old, too small, a female, diabetic, asthmatic,
pregnant or have other genetic or medical problems.
Anyone, regardless of age, size, sex, physical disability
or whatever can learn martial arts because everyone
progresses at their own pace and is not competing with
anyone else. Martial Arts teaches you to use your opponent's
power and the power of leverage. Size and strength are not
as important as determination and discipline.
I'm not in very good shape or very coordinated.
Martial arts does not require athletic ability. If you
want to learn martial arts, you wil learn. It will improve
your coordination and your physical fitness level.
I'm too heavy or I want to lose weight.
Exercise is the best way to lose weight and martial arts
uses 98% of the muscles in the body. If you are underweight
you will gain, if you are overweight you will lose.
Will I be safe in class?
yes. As a beginner, you will start out learning the basics
and will not do anything that involves techniques beyond
your abilities. Our instructors and senior students are
trained to control all techniques. We also use protective
gear and safety equipment.
How many students are in the school?
No more than 120 students are allowed at this school.
This ensures a favorable student-teacher ratio.
Classes range from 6 to 20 students.
How big is the school?
The school is 2400 square feet and is fully equipped.
Who is the teacher?
Mr. Lepp and his fully qualified black belts teach
and/or supervise all classes.
How long has Mr. Lepp been teaching?
Mr. Lepp has been teching in Northwest Austin's
Anderson Mill area for over 13 years. Our school
has been at its present site for over 4 years.
